With over 100 members from the local 22-40 age group, YPAP is an inclusive network of the most energetic and dedicated young professionals in the South Bend community. Each member is valued for his or her individual talents, and is a tremendous asset to the Center’s mission of breaking the cycle of homelessness.

member guidelines and expectations

I understand that as a member of the Young Professionals Against Poverty, I have a responsibility to represent the Center for the Homeless as a volunteer and advocate in a positive light. My responsibilities include participating in Young Professionals Against Poverty fundraising, volunteering, and mentoring activities; encouraging community support for the Center; promoting the mission of the Center for the Homeless, and recruiting future Young Professionals Against Poverty members and supporters.

General Expectations

  1. Know the mission, vision, strategic plan, and goals of the Center for the Homeless. Understand the strengths and needs of the organization.
  2. Follow trends of the organization, other homeless organizations, and general not-for-profit social service organizations.
  3. Actively engage in the mission by partaking in volunteer opportunities at the Center.
  4. Serve in leadership positions and undertake special assignments willingly and enthusiastically.
  5. Act in the best interest of the Center for the Homeless by excusing oneself from any discussion in which there may be a conflict of interest, and confirm respect for the Center for the Homeless by maintaining confidentiality and not communicating information of a sensitive nature that may be shared with the organization.
  6. Suggest possible new members who are women and men of rising achievement and distinction and who can make significant contributions to the work of the Young Professionals Against Poverty.

Meeting Expectations

  1. Prepare for and attend regularly scheduled YPAP meetings and special meetings as required.
  2. Attend or volunteer for at least one Young Professionals Against Poverty or Center for the Homeless fundraising event annually.

Resource Development Expectations

  1. Make a financial contribution annually of at least $50.
  2. Actively plan and participate in the Young Professionals Against Poverty events.
  3. Volunteer at the Center for the Homeless in any capacity at least once per month.
  4. Recruit potential new members who will contribute positively to the YPAP mission.
