With over 100 members from the local 22-40 age group, YPAP is an inclusive network of the most energetic and dedicated young professionals in the South Bend community. Each member is valued for his or her individual talents, and is a tremendous asset to the Center’s mission of breaking the cycle of homelessness.

“It is inspiring to step back and at look at how a phone call between two friends has turned into a marquee community event in such a short amount of time.” The event YPAP member Aaron Perri is referring to, of course, is On the River.

Back in 2008, Aaron, fellow YPAP Tom Shaw, and YPAP founder Matt Money were talking about having an end-of-summer party for their friends—perhaps in someone’s backyard, with some Buffett music playing in the background. But if you know these guys at all, you know they think big—and that party is now a two-day summer bash on a manmade beach in downtown South Bend along a stretch of the St. Joseph River, which brings in thousands of people and tens of thousands of dollars for the Center for the Homeless.

Now in its third year, On the River has become the signature annual YPAP fundraising event. But it’s about more than money. As Aaron says, “This event was designed to literally and figuratively transform the landscape of our community.” That’s the tagline of OTR—“Changing the Landscape of our Community”—and an attitude that Aaron embodies and cultivates among our members.

A native of South Bend, Aaron graduated from John Adams High School and the University of Notre Dame, and recently completed his Executive MBA at Notre Dame. You’d be hard pressed to find more enthusiastic champion of the city we call home. “I enjoy continually creating and learning new things, investing in my community and the people around me,” Aaron says. His investment of time, talent, and treasure in our organization is immeasurable, and is largely what has made OTR such an enormous success.

Aaron has been the General Manager of Legends Restaurant & Alehouse Pub at Notre Dame for the last several years, and in his spare time (if you can believe he actually has any), he enjoys kayaking, graphic design, video production, reading, and cooking.
